MGT 782 Strategic Communication and Human Performance Support Systems is the third course in the organizational health series based on the principles and practices of Patrick Lencioni. Before diving into Organizational Health Disciplines 3 and 4, you’ll review the six questions in Discipline 2 and how they relate to repeating messages and reinforcing clarity. You’ll gain the key elements to create strategic communication plans and cascading messages. Focus is also given to the importance of design performance support and other human systems that reinforce organizational clarity. Coursework explores how to conduct intentional and effective meetings where all members focus on thematic goals and leave with clear and specific agreements. By the end of this class, you’ll be able to analyze a real-world situation, identify the barriers to organizational health, and apply concepts from the Four Disciplines Model with an authentic project.

  • Devise a plan outlining the key ways a leadership team can communicate the six aspects of clarity to all employees.

Week 3 – Reinforce Clarity

Throughout week three, you’ll dive deeper into Discipline 4: Reinforce Clarity and see how building effective human systems is as important as any other system at an organization. You’ll learn to:

  • Describe the interdependencies between an organization’s answers to the six questions and reinforcing clarity.
  • Recognize that Discipline 4 is about learning how to incorporate an organization’s clarity and culture into each human performance system.
  • Identify ways that human performance systems are designed to support an organization’s clarity.

Week 4 – Human Systems

During the midpoint week of the course, you’ll discover how one organization customized a human system to fit its culture. You’ll be able to:

  • Make recommendations for tying an organization’s clarity and culture into its human performance systems and processes.

Week 5 – Meetings

As you progress to week five, you’ll come to realize that effective meetings are central to the health of an organization. You’ll learn to:

  • Describe the communication techniques leaders in a healthy organization employ.
  • Identify pitfalls to clear communication in organizations.

Week 6 – Meetings Continued

In week six, you’ll learn that effective meetings might become a team’s favorite part of work. You’ll be able to:

  • Make recommendations for how to eliminate waste and frustration from meetings and transform them into environments of engagement and passion

Week 7 – Seizing the Advantage

Throughout this week, you’ll explore how achieving organizational health could be the key differentiator and competitive advantage over the competition. You’ll learn to:

Week 8 – Reflection
